The Lost Baseball Relic of Otto Rettig and The History of the Doherty Silk Sox Team

To some people, this may appear to be nothing more than an old bat. But, this lost relic actually has a story to tell about one of best semi-pros baseball teams that ever played during the turn of the 20th century (The Doherty Silk Sox) as well as one of the best semi-pro pitchers of that era, Otto Rettig.

Rettig later worked his way into the major leagues for just one season in 1922 but that was enough to stop the St. Louis Browns in their tracks from winning the pennant that year and ending one of their best seasons in franchise history.

I couldn’t agree more with Jack DeVries, author of an upcoming book on the Doherty Silk Sox who states on his website: If you think the “Field of Dreams” was created in an Iowa cornfield, you’re wrong. So, pull up a chair and stay a while as we explore this great baseball story – right here on History and Relics.
